Bing’s AI chatbot can now generate unhinged images alongside unhinged text

For Bing Preview users, an “enhanced” version of OpenAI’s DALL-E has been introduced.

Microsoft announced today that it will provide its in-development chatbot Bing AI with the ability to generate images. Bing Preview users can generate an image by typing “create image” (or something similar) followed by a prompt. As with any AI-powered image generator, the more detailed your prompts, the more specific and consistent your output will be.

Not all Bing Preview users will be able to generate images out of the box as Microsoft is rolling out this feature gradually (at the time of writing this, it doesn’t work for me). First, it only works in the chatbot’s “creative” mode. There are three ‘personalities’ in bots, with ‘creative’ being the most prone to wrong answers and inaccurate information.

Microsoft says it uses an “advanced version” of the DALL-E generator, but doesn’t give details. The Bing chatbot was using OpenAI’s GPT-4 model a few weeks before it was officially unveiled, so it’s possible Microsoft is also using the more powerful pre-release DALL-E model. . Microsoft published an image of his generator in October using the DALL-E 2.

In light of initial issues with the text that Bing chatbots may generate, Microsoft is implementing additional safeguards for content generation in addition to OpenAI’s built-in restrictions on DALL-E.

His VP Yusuf Mehdi at Microsoft wrote in the company’s blog post: “Also make it clear that the Image Creator images are AI-generated and include a modified Bing icon of him in the bottom left corner of each image to indicate that the images were created with Image Creator. .”

Microsoft has been pushing all year to include more AI capabilities in all of our products. The “new Bing” originally debuted in early February, shortly after Microsoft added Bing chat integration to the Edge browser and Windows 11 taskbar. Last week, the company announced Copilot, an AI tool for generating documents, emails, notes, and presentations using previous Microsoft Office apps. The company has a multi-year, multi-billion dollar partnership with OpenAI that makes all these projects possible.
