Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has charged officers and soldiers to be loyal to constituted authority.

In the pursuit of peace and security in Nigeria, he also encouraged them to ensure more coordination and synergy with sister services and other security agencies.

According to Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director Army Public Relations, the COAS gave the charge during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration on Sunday.

While congratulating officers, soldiers, and their families, the COAS reminded them that the Armed Forces Remembrance Day was observed every year in honor of fallen heroes; valiant men and women who paid the ultimate price in the defense of Nigeria’s peace, unity, and prosperity.

Many of the fallen heroes died in the First and Second World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War, Peace Support Operations around the world, and different Internal Security Operations, he said.

He listed the operations as include the ongoing war against insurgency, terrorism, banditry, and secessionism, as well as other national security concerns.

He prayed for the tranquility of their souls and assured them that their sacrifices would not be forgotten.

He went on to say that the AFRDC provides an opportunity to honor veterans who are still living, noting that many of the veterans had suffered varied degrees of injury while serving the country and mankind.

He assured them that under his command, treatment for injured and maimed people will remain a top priority.

He exhorted soldiers and officers not to give up, but to maintain and build on the gains made so far.

The NA’s commanders and soldiers, according to the COAS, must be loyal to constituted authority.
He also utilized the platform to reiterate the NA’s unwavering commitment to President Muhammadu Buhari, the Commander in Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Constitution.
