A former Google employee says she was released from a hospital bed soon after giving birth.

Would you believe that Google’s mass firings from January are still going on? Google’s reported mishandling of its biggest round of layoffs ever has employees up in arms, and they’re doing everything from walking out on the job to sending angry letters to management.

First up, European Googlers are just now being laid off due to the January announcement. Reuters reports that more than 200 workers were laid off from the Zurich, Switzerland, branch of the company this week. The employees at that office walked out for a second time in protest of the move and even offered to take pay cuts or reduce working hours to stave off the job cuts. Google’s layoffs seem driven by a desire to placate the stock market, though, so it’s no surprise that these offers fell on deaf ears.

Many of the Swiss workers who took part in the protest are members of the IT trade union Syndicom, a union spokesman told Reuters. It’s especially disappointing that Google makes billions of dollars in profits every year and still lays off employees. ”

Current and former employees believe that Google is cruel to employees who are on sick or maternity leave during layoffs. CNBC reports that Google has decided not to give pre-approved leave to furloughed employees. Some of his Googlers formed a group called “Field on Vacation” to try to meet deadlines Google had previously agreed to for employees going through major life changes.

Getting Google to honor previous furlough deals doesn’t have to be just about paying employees when they have medical or family issues. As part of Google’s (seemingly abandoned) plan to provide as many employee benefits as possible, the company has an in-house medical facility that many employees use. There are facilities.

An employee’s retirement package may come with a few more months of health insurance, but layoffs mean immediate loss of access to Google facilities. If the Google employee’s family doctor who was laid off worked there, that person was out of luck, and some employees told his CNBC when the dismissal email arrived his second. said he had lost contact with his doctor. Even if you are out of work, there is still plenty to do. Former Google employee Kate Howells said she was released from a hospital bed shortly after giving birth to Google, who worked for the company for nine years.

Pointing to Google’s failure to live up to the image it presents to the world, the group Laid off on Leave said: we agree with you:
It is very important to recognize the challenges that still disproportionately affect women in the workplace. ”

Another group of Google employees has sent an open letter to CEO Sundar his Pichai to continue hiring while on sick leave, freeze new hires during his process of layoffs, and offer future prospects for laid-off employees. I asked them to give priority to re-employment. The letter also states that the layoffs will not discriminate against anyone, and that the company will protect employees facing humanitarian crises by not dismissing employees with visas from Ukraine or Russia. We are asking Google to guarantee. More than 1,300 Googlers have signed up to date.
