A transparency group called Connected Development (CODE) has spoken out against the Oro festival, which is slated to take place on March 18, 2023, the same day as the governorship elections.

The festival was scheduled for election day, according to information obtained by DAILY POST from Saheed Ademola, the Ikate-Elegushi Kingdom’s traditional ruler in Lagos State.

He also urged people to stay inside in several areas of the Eti-Osa Local Government Area.

The organization’s chief executive officer, Hamzat Lawal, responded on Thursday by speculating that the planned festival may be an attempt to prevent voters from exercising their right to vote.

The group criticized the low voter turnout in the general election on February 25 and urged the Lagos State government to halt any actions that would discourage people from casting ballots in the next governor’s race in Lagos State on Saturday.

“In line with recent patterns, Lagos State has decided to hold the Oro celebration during an election. Due to the curfew, there is typically no activity allowed during elections.

“We believe that this could be a plan to further deny citizens their right to vote, and we demand that the Lagos State administration and law enforcement agencies address and stop any activities,”

that jeopardizes voters’ ability to participate in both the and these elections.

He told newsmen, “We also call on security agencies to also pay attention to designated volatile states and curb any stem of violence.
