The official X account for OpenAI’s ChatGPT posted the same “I’m sick” message that President Joe Biden used, then playfully mocked general intelligence. The account light-heartedly mimicked a post by President Biden, which was widely understood to refer to his recent Covid-19 diagnosis. However, Biden used the statement in a different context to mock billionaire investor Elon Musk.

“I’m sick,” ChatGPT wrote in a July 20 post on X, before similarly playing on the words by elaborating, “of general intelligence not being ubiquitous and too cheap to meter.”

Just two days before making a similar “I’m sick” post, Biden claimed that Musk is trying to “buy the election.” This statement came as Biden faced pressure from some Democrats to step aside for the 2024 election.

On July 18, he wrote, “Of Elon Musk and his rich buddies trying to buy this election. And if you agree, pitch in here,” following reports that Musk plans to donate $45 million a month to a pro-Trump political action committee.

Biden’s X post came shortly after he revealed his Covid-19 diagnosis. On July 18, Biden shared, “I tested positive for COVID-19 this afternoon, but I am feeling good and thank everyone for the well wishes. I will be isolating as I recover, and during this time I will continue to work to get the job done for the American people.”

Only weeks earlier, an advocacy group urged Biden to revise his stance on cryptocurrency to boost his chances in the 2024 presidential election. In a July 9 letter, the tech trade group Chamber of Progress called on Biden to support comprehensive crypto regulation, citing election concerns and upcoming congressional votes on related legislation.

The group claimed that the president “can still win” the cryptocurrency issue against Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee. They stated, “Former President Donald Trump has capitalized on the Administration’s lack of clarity to reverse his position on cryptocurrency and portray you as an opponent of American technological leadership and economic progress.”
