Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has been recommended as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate by a panel.

It made the choice following a long meeting of the National Advisory Committee, an ad hoc council established by the party leadership to select a suitable running mate for the candidate.

Wike was reportedly chosen after a vote of the people. On a scale of one to ten, he received 16 out of a possible twenty votes.

Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) were the three governors who were dropped for the Rivers governor.

According to reports, Wike was chosen after a voice vote. He received 16 out of a possible 20 votes.

Ambassador Umar Damagum, the PDP’s Deputy National Chairman (North), chairs the panel.

Senator Samuel Anyanwu, PDP National Secretary, Umar Bature, National Organising Secretary, Samuel Ortom (Benue), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), and Governors Samuel Ortom (Benue), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), and Bala Mohammed are among the other members (Bauchi).

Former governors Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Ahmed Makarfi (Kaduna), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), and Babangida Aliyu are also on the panel (Niger).

 

Members include Senator Philip Aduda (FCT), House Minority Leader Ndudi Elumelu, and former Senate President David Mark.

According to reports, Atiku offered Wike the vice presidential position on May 30, but the governor requested more time to deliberate with his advisers.

Wike also consulted Governor Ortom, according to reports.

Ortom reportedly persuaded Wike to accept the deal, according to sources.
