YouTube announced Friday that it is reviving former President Donald Trump’s channel. It’s been more than two years since he was suspended for the attack on the US Capitol on January 6th.

The move follows similar actions in recent months by Twitter and Facebook’s parent company Meta, though Trump has yet to resume posting to those platforms. That also comes after Trump announced last fall that he would run for president again in 2024.

“We carefully assessed the risks of ongoing violence in the real world while also considering opportunities for voters to hear equally from key national candidates ahead of the election,” YouTube tweeted on Friday. said in

According to CNN a representative for Trump did not immediately respond to a request for comment from CNN. The channel restoration was first reported by Axios.

YouTube initially suspended Trump’s channel after the Capitol riot, saying a video on the channel had violated its policy against inciting violence. Since then, Trump’s account had been blocked from uploading new videos or livestreams.

YouTube had also disabled comments underneath videos on Trump’s channel, which appear to have been restored on Friday. Immediately after his account was restored, a number of users began posting “welcome back” comments under old videos.

YouTube has never been Trump’s primary social platform, but relaunching his channel has given him access to a massive video-streaming platform with more than 2.6 million subscribers on his account. Recover.

Some have stressed that as more platforms restore Trump’s account, he continues to face restrictions on what he can post, and may be banned again.

In a statement, YouTube said Trump’s “channel will continue to be subject to our policies, just like any other channel on YouTube.” YouTube operates a warning policy that allows users to receive tiered bans based on the number and severity of violations.

Meanwhile, Meta revealed last month that it had introduced new guardrails for Trump’s account.

For now, the former president continues to post only on his platform, Truth Social, where Trump repeated false claims on Truth Social Friday morning that the 2020 presidential election was stolen. I released a video of the book.
