1bn Nnamdi Kanu, FG.

The forceful invasion of Nnamdi Kanu’s home in 2017 was declared unconstitutional and a violation of his human rights by Justice Benson Anya of the Abia State High Court.

Kanu first addressed the Court on September 10, 2017, asking a sum of N5 billion in compensation for the military’s invasion of his father’s home.

Furthermore, the presiding judge found today that Kanu’s detention and forced return to Nigeria in June 2021 was “illegal” under local and international law.

The judge also ordered the federal government to compensate Kanu for the breach of his fundamental human rights by paying him N1 billion in reparation.

The court also suggested that the unrest be resolved through political means.
